Royal Dornoch Golf Club
The North-East of Scotland is rightly a Mecca for golf lovers, as there are a collection of excellent links courses with dramatic scenery, all in easy travelling distance of Embo House and each other.
Royal Dornoch Championship Golf Course. Consistently voted one of the “World’s Top 10 courses” in Golf Digest and other rankings. It is 2 minutes from the house in a car, or walk half a mile from the back of the house to the 8th hole. Herbert Warren Wind called it the most natural course in the world. Tom Watson called it the most fun he’d had playing golf. Donald Ross called it his home, having been born in Dornoch and learned the game on the links. Tucked in an arc of dunes along the shoreline, Dornoch’s greens, some by Old Tom Morris, others by John Sutherland or tour pro George Duncan, sit mostly on plateaus and don’t really favour bounce-and-run golf. That’s the challenge: hitting the greens in the wind!
Carnegie Links at Skibo Castle, (10 minutes west). The exclusive course located at Andrew Carnegie’s Skibo Castle, is now allowing a limited number of players onto the course via green fees.
Golspie Golf Club, (fifteen minutes north). James Braid’s 1889 seaside classic rumoured to have the finest greens in Scotland.
Tain Golf Club, (fifteen minutes south). Old Tom Morris’ clever 1890 design hosted Scottish Ladies Amateur Championship in 2012.
Brora Golf Club, (half an hour north along the coast). James Braid’s 1891 seaside masterpiece which five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson stated was “the best traditional links course in the world”.
Castle Stuart Golf Links, (an hour south). Scottish Open Venue and voted best new course in Scotland.

There are also charming courses slightly further afield, including Lybster, Wick, Thurso and Reay. Also Fortrose & Rosmarkie on the Black Isle and Durness (most Northerly mainland course), all worth the trip.
Embo House is ideal for hosting exclusive golf tours of up to 8, or 8 players with partners in extremely comfortable and spacious surroundings.
Each player (or couple) will have a double bedroom and their own bathroom – all of the bathrooms are en suite. All bar one of the bedrooms has a view over the sea.
Aside from the bedrooms, there is ample space for relaxing in the evenings or on golfing “rest days” in the cedar-lined library, in the whisky bar, or outside in the glorious eight acres of garden. If there are non-golfers in your party, there are many other interesting things to see and do in the locality. Please see tab on “Things to do”.
Embo House is set up to cater properly for golfers. Just inside the back door we have a club store, boot room and drying room, so that equipment can be safely stored and dried out overnight if required.

We understand golfing parties may want breakfast catered for them, so if you do, please let us know. We can also provide a chef to cook dinner for you in the house, and/or drivers to collect you from airports/golf courses/restaurants in town, though it is helpful to have as much warning as possible!
It is also possible to arrange other bespoke activities, such as post-golf massages, whisky tastings, spa days, fishing trips etc. Please just ask.
